If the deep veins of the arm are accessible, a long-term central VAD may be placed in the arm: this would be a tunneled PICC (tunneling will guarantee long term protection from extraluminal contamination), either cuffed or uncuffed but secured with a subcutaneously anchored system (so to guarantee long term stabilization)
